Career
Camil’s figurative language reveals a playful element, stemming from both the irreverence of graffiti and his creative process. He improvises while drawing, allowing his imagination and understanding to flow naturally, driven by a playful impulse, without conscious initiative, simply by playing with the work, the materials, the colors, and the characters. His style is characterized by its cheerful, dynamic, and imperfect drawing, which leans towards experimentation, drawing on clear aesthetic references to Naïve art, Art Brut, Pop Art, comics, and illustration. He celebrates the personality of contemporary Barcelona, from the pre-Olympic era to the explosion of graffiti and urban art. He has been particularly interested in and influenced by renowned artists such as Javier Mariscal, Pablo Picasso, the illustrator Pilarín Bayés, and the urban artist Nami “La Mano.”
It tends to depict scenes from the world of graffiti in Barcelona, the actions of graffiti artists in public spaces or indoors, with an artistic, documentary, archival and advocacy purpose for the practice itself.
Similarly, he is known in the art world for his humorous narratives, still lifes contemporary to the artist, and compositions crammed with information, with a multifaceted universe that alludes to codes and symbols of the most “underground” culture in all its manifestations; such as graffiti, art, music, fashion, technology, social issues, proof of Camil’s constant interest in current events and trends.
