Career
Francesc Punsola, (Barcelona, January 12, 1966), is a multifaceted artist, difficult to categorize in the usual labels of different artistic styles.
A pioneer of 1980s urban graffiti, under the alias Frank Trepax, he was a highly accomplished advertising illustrator and creator of impressive ecograffiti that, by combining art and nature, imbued natural spaces with additional meaning. It is worth noting that, while much of his work is ephemeral, many of his graphic creations remain in the collective imagination.
His work
His most recent pictorial work illuminates an utterly original and disconcertingly rich artistic discourse, imbued with a critical, humanist, and demystifying perspective. It is the finest example of a mastery of drawing and multiple artistic techniques that allow the artist to quote, invoke, and recreate every corner of artistic tradition, from primitive art to the 20th-century avant-garde, pop art, and the graphic language of comics.
In 2021 at the Dipòsit de les Aigües (Water Reservoir building, architects Gaudí-Fontseré) in Barcelona and commissioned by Pompeu Fabra University for the UPF-Art Track collection, he created the imposing painting of the Punktocrator, whose creation process was captured in the documentary De Rerum Natura.
